Adopters for Adoption is a national UK adoption agency. The agency was set up to not only provide adoption services to those looking to become adoptive parents of a baby or child, but to also have a positive impact on the way those people are supported in the adoption process.
Interested in Adopting in London?
There are many misconceptions about who can and who can’t adopt. However, there are just three criteria that you need to meet in order to be considered for adoption. You need to be at least 21 years old, living in the British Islands and in possession of a record clear of convictions or cautions for certain criminal offences.
We’re looking for adoptive parents to adopt a child or a baby in London or the surrounding areas. Every year around 4,000 children, in England, wait for loving adoptive parents. The children available for adoption are a range of ages, and are from a variety of backgrounds. What they have in common is a difficult start in life and that they can no longer be brought up by their birth families.
There are children of all ages, ethnicities and abilities waiting to be adopted and whether you’re looking to adopt a newborn, infant, toddler or older child, we will support you fully in finding a suitable match. In England there is a particular need for adopters for:
- babies and children with disabilities
- brothers and sisters
- black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) children
- Older children (over 4 years)
Adoption Matchmaking in London
If you are interested in adopting a child or a group of siblings, your social worker will assist you in exploring adoption profiles and finding a child or children that match your interests and abilities to meet their needs. If the child’s social worker believes that your family could be a good fit, you will have the opportunity to attend meetings to gather more information and discuss the child’s situation in greater detail.
What Support Will You Get If You Adopt in London?
Once the adoption order has been granted, the adoptive parents take on complete financial responsibility for the upkeep of the child. Some local authorities provide financial support dependent on the needs of the child; this is called an adoption allowance. Like any other parents, you’ll be able to receive Child Benefits and other state benefits. An adoption support fund may also be available for children with additional therapeutic needs based on assessment by the Local Authority.
You can also apply for the Adoption Support Fund, which was established to help adoptive parents obtain therapeutic services and support packages for their family when needed. You can do this by requesting an assessment from the Local Authority, who can then submit an application for an Adoption Support Fund. The service is available to all children in adoptive care who have been referred by their local authorities in England.
