Safer Stronger Adoptive Families Team
Meet the team:
Monique Oakley – Family Support Worker
I am a Family Support Worker for Safer, Stronger, Adoptive Families and have been working for Core Assets since 2014. I have previously worked one-to-one with children with a variety of additional needs and closely liaised with their families for the past 12 years whilst working in school settings. More recently, I have worked as an Independent Supporter and Family Fund assessor.
I am a qualified Triple P practitioner working with families all over the country and have personal experience of adoption as my niece was adopted 14 years ago. I have worked with children with speech and language difficulties and am trained to use Makaton. I was previously employed as a qualified sports coach and I have worked on projects to encourage children into sport to boost their self-esteem and improve social skills. I am very much looking forward to working with Adopters for Adoption as the organisation continues to grow.
Sharon Sharwin – Family Support Worker
I have worked for Core Assets for 3 years. I am a qualified Triple P Parenting practitioner for ages 0-12 and Teens and a trained Gateway Domestic Abuse awareness facilitator. I was previously the lead worker for the parenting team for Core Assets Children’s Services in Cheshire West and Chester.
Prior to working for Core Assets, I qualified as an Integrative Counsellor, offering a combined approach to psychotherapy, with a humanistic core approach. I have also previously worked in Counselling support work in a male juvenile prison. In addition to this, I was employed as a life coach in a semi-independent home for young people aged 16 to 19 who suffered from emotional difficulties.
I joined Adopters for Adoption in January 2017, supporting adopted families on a 1:1 basis using the Safer, Stronger, Adoptive Families approach – Team Parenting, Solution Focussed Behavioural Therapy and Standard Teen Triple P.
Kirsty Cooke – Family Support Worker
I am a Family Support Worker for Safer Stronger Adoptive Families supporting adopted families on a 1:1 basis. I have been with Core Assets since May 2017 and have 5 years’ experience as a Family Support Worker working within a Children’s Centre within the Dudley area. I’ve worked with families and young children with a variety of additional needs and closely liaised with other professionals and services. Within this employment, I supported families who were identified as ‘Child In Need’ to work with professionals to affect positive change and enable these families to work towards being able to stay together. I was previously the lead worker for the “Time for Twos” funding programme in Dudley and worked closely with other Children Centres and children’s settings to improve their safeguarding measures.
I am a qualified Triple P (Teen) Practitioner and work within the Midland’s area supporting adoptive families using the Safer, Stronger, Adoptive Families approach.
Aaron Marjolin – Family Support Worker
I am a qualified Children’s nurse and have experience of working in Special Care baby units and Ear, Nose and Throat children’s wards. I have over 6 years’ experience of working in Children’s homes, including being the house manager for a home for Deaf children with complex needs. I sat on the company’s safeguarding board during my time in this role. I joined Core Assets in January 2016, working in the Safer, Stronger Families team in Kent during which time I delivered the twelve week SSF programme to families on the edge of care. I am Triple P (Teen) trained and accredited.
In addition to my work experience, I have grown up with adopted siblings so I have some personal insight into how this can feel for both birth and adopted children within the adoption process.
All of this experience has given me a sound level of understanding of the needs of adopted families and I am very much looking forward to working with and supporting families through the Safer Stronger Adoptive Family intervention.
